St Maarten Restaurants
Spinnaker Bar and Grill
The Spinnaker Bar & Grill functions as a club house for the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, organizers of the annual Heineken Regatta. Open to members of the club as well as the general public, Spinnaker provides all imaginable nourishments and adult drinks that might be required before or after a day of intense sailing on the Caribbean waters surrounding St. Martin island. In September 2009, the management of Spinnaker changed hands. You'll now find Brad Taylor and Tara Newsum at the helm (frm. Lagoonies). Their motto is *"Good food, great view and cold beers!* - the restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Tuesday thru Sunday (breakfast weekends only in low season). Spinnaker's bar is open seven days a week, from 4pm to 10pm.

L'Estaminet
Grand Case, with its high concentration of award-winning fine dining establishments, is possibly the toughest place on the island of St. Maarten and St. Martin that an entrepreneur could choose as a location for their new restaurant. Doing so speaks of remarkable confidence, and an undaunted desire to make a name for oneself on the extremely competitive *"Boulevard de Grand Case"* - in the picturesque village better known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean. Yet, this is exactly what Carole and Ina had in mind when they opened their charming new restaurant L'Estaminet in October of 2006, located right across the street from DineSXM featured restaurant "La California":http://www.dinesxm.com/restaurants/la-california A traditional Creole cottage, on the quiet side of the boulevard, became home to a hidden gem on restaurant row. L'Estaminet is quickly making a name for itself, and already became an award winner with chef Ina Urfalino as the recipient of a Bronze medal at the 2007 Taste of St. Martin competition. Tripadvisor readers also give this restaurant high marks, with a popularity index of 2 out of more than a hundred featured island restaurants. With the charming Carole as your host an evening at L'Estaminet becomes a culinary highlight, that combines warm and impeccable service with first-class French-styled cuisine. As you would expect from a new restaurant that vies to become a top contender, the cuisine at L'Estaminet combines long-established French culinary traditions with chef Urfalino's very personal creative twists and refreshing innovations. The duck breast is served *au cacao,* and the Mahi-mahi comes marinated in a delicious Guyanese masala. Attention chocoholics: leave room for the chocolate dessert sampler...

Chesterfields
Chesterfields, at Dock Maarten in Great Bay is a St. Maarten restaurant with traditions that go back for decades. It's been, what, nearly 30 years already since this cozy waterfront restaurant overlooking the bay first opened its doors. Situated between the entrance to St. Maarten's cruise ship terminal and the tourist village of Philipsburg, the establishment has seen its surrounding neighborhood change dramatically over all those years. A change that has greatly passed by the restaurant itself, and leaving it an oasis of old Caribbean charm - even its staff has mostly remained the same. A sign on the wall reads *"A fisherman lives here, with the best catch of his life"* - quite possibly recounting the tale of owner Geoff Heilmann and his wife Eva. Geoff took over in 1989 and built out the place. Chesterfields is an all-year family restaurant, catering to a lunch crowd that consists of residents who work at nearby Philipsburg offices, and a steady stream of cruise ship passengers who find the restaurant while strolling back and forth between the cruise pier and the village boardwalk. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What you'll find on the menu here is a selection of grilled dishes and seafood. Peel and eat shrimp, conch fritters, salads, burgers: all moderately priced. They "kick it up a notch" for dinner, including French onion soup, Chesterfields' duck with banana-pineapple sauce, steaks and the almost ubiquitous fresh Saba lobster. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 nightly.
