SABA--Lt. Governors of the Netherlands Antilles have congratulated acting Lt. Governor of St. Eustatius, Gerald Berkel, on his appointment to the post of Lt. Governor of the island, effective April 1.
Berkel has been acting Lt. Governor for the past eight years. The Kingdom Council of Ministers approved his appointment on Friday.
Saba's Lt. Governor, Jonathan Johnson said in a Government Information Service (GIS) release, his colleagues wished Berkel "much success with his tasks."
The four Lt. Governors and Berkel were on Saba for their quarterly Lt. Governors meetings which also concluded Friday.
The three-day meeting covered the financial situation of the islands, constitutional restructuring, criminality, maintenance of public order and safety, and the national ordinance on admittance and expulsion.
Justice Minister Magali Jacoba and St. Maarten's Leader of Government Commissioner William Marlin were also on Saba Friday and met with the Lt. Governors.
Governor General of the Netherlands Antilles Frits Goedgedrag was unable to attend the quarterly meeting due to other engagements.
