COLE BAY--A speeding truck crushed the front passenger's side of a car in a collision in Cole Bay late Wednesday.
Paramedics rushed the driver of a Toyota Corolla to the hospital after he tried to turn left from Union Road onto Well Road while a pickup truck sped ahead.
A third car trying to turn onto Union Road was knocked into bushes on the roadside.
The impact pushed the Corolla back into a light-pole in front of Ace Megacenter and spun the truck around. The car was sent forward again when it hit the post.
The Corolla's front right side was mangled. The truck sheared off the door casing, crumpled the passenger's side and exposed the wires underneath. The right side of the front axle was bent.
The crash cracked half the car's windshield. Hitting the post left a deep dent in the trunk. The driver was alone in the car.
The truck lost a portion of its engine on the lower right, but sustained little more than external damage otherwise. The third car had moderate damage to its front.
Traffic heading to and from Marigot was rerouted through Ace's parking lot while onlookers gathered on either side of Union Road to watch the damage.
Police didn't have an official report Thursday.
